All children ages 7-17 are welcome to attend the center and participate in recreational and education programs, both after school and in the summer. The Youth Services department offers:
- A Department of Human Services approved delinquency prevention program
- A life skills teaching program
- Karate
- Soccer
- Open Gym/Basketball
- A-Town Cheerleading
- Theatre Workshop
- Fishing Derby
- Character Counts! Programs
- Summer Camps
- Free Lunch Program
After a one time membership ID fee of $2.00, programs are free for children.
Free Lunch Program
Each summer Youth Services delivers over 35,000 lunches to area children at over 20 summer camp and school sites in the area. The Summer Lunch Program is funded by a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education.
Self Defense for Women
A comprehensive course dealing with the principles of self-protection, threat awareness and personal risk reduction. Participants will learn techniques used by the ancient warriors of Japan as well as combat tactics used by the special forces of the United States and Soviet Union.
Class meets every Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Youth facility located at 313 Gale Street, Aurora and is free of charge.
Summer Day Camp
Two of the free lunch program sites are 8-week day camps offered by township youth outreach workers for children ages 7 to 13. Children participate in sports, arts and crafts, reading and writing activities, field trips, and more! The camps meet at the Youth Center and Gates School, 800 7th Avenue. The Township summer campsites are cooperative efforts with Communities in Schools, Quad County Urban League, and the East and West Aurora school districts.
